I can't believe we are wrapping up this school year! It's bittersweet... I've seen such growth and independence and I'm so sad to say goodbye but I'm so proud of them for what they've become!
This week, in Math, we practiced division and worked on our games/projects. Most students chose to make games while a few decided to complete the project, "If I had $1,000,000." Lina and Doon have found the way out of Ember! in Read Aloud and are ready to begin their journey but first, they need to hide from the guards that are trying to capture them... In Reader's Workshop, we got our books to begin our book talks/literature circles. Some are reading a mystery, The Westing Game, or a fantasy, The Castle in the Attic, science-fiction, Half-Magic, realistic fiction, Flying Solo or a biography, Who Was Harry Houdini?. They started the books and set up their reading schedule. In Writer's Workshop, we are working on pieces for next year's 4th graders by creating brochures of Room 110 or writing letters for what to expect or creating a fun narrative. We are working with completing the writing process, editing and revising to make complete 4th grade pieces of writing. We have applied for Statehood to Mr. H, in Social Studies, so we are busy creating state symbols and designs for a flag. Finally, in Science, we are working with electricity. Students have a wire, battery and light bulb and are working in groups to discover how to make the bulb light.
